Millions of Opportunities

Every year millions of Muslims crowd into Dhaka, Bangladesh for a weeklong time of prayer. Traveling with my friend Art Wolfe, we immersed ourselves in this scene. The prayer event was coming to an end and it was time for the worshippers to board trains on their way home to rural cities and towns.

In an environment so hectic it’s ideal to prepare mentally in advance and have a “shot list” in mind. These are images that your advance research has shown have high potential to become a reality. Upon arrival, take a moment to assess the scene to see what’s happening now and could evolve as you’re onsite. I would advise having two cameras and lenses. One being a wider variety (24-70, 16-40) and the other a longer zoom (70-200, 100-400) to capture the crowd scenes and then be selective with compositions. .
